Sunny & Andrew – Atami Japan Ryokan Elopement Wedding

Another rainy day in Japan, but Japan is one of the few places that can be nice and romantic in the rain.

Sunny and Andrew eloped to Atami, a seaside town near Mt Fuji – popular with local Japanese tourists but not yet known to foreign tourists.

Atami is lovely, with hot springs steaming from the ground everywhere and vintage Showa-era vibes around town still standing strong.

Sunny and Andrew stayed at the Furuya Ryokan, a traditional Japanese hotel built in the early 1800’s. The original plan was to go down to the beach for the ceremony, but due to the rain we kept everything indoors. They said their vows and promises to each other in the Tatami room, followed by a sake ceremony. There is something calming and peaceful about these tatatmi rooms.

While the Kaiseki Ryori Dinner was being prepared, we went outside briefly in the rain for photos at the Ryokan. A little shrine, a gate and a well-kept garden all within a few meters from each other.

Back at the room – WOW, the food was ready. Absolutely beautiful food. Highly recommended..!
