Tokyo Kamakura Japan Elopement Wedding – L & G
What comes to mind when you hear about an “elopement”?
If you simply google it, elopements tend to happen in scenic outdoor locations – perhaps on the top of a mountain in New Zealand, or on a white sand beach in a Tropical Island.
The definition of an “Elopement” is not very clear yet in 2025. Many people strictly enforce a no-guests rule, while for others it has taken a new meaning for a “Destination Wedding”. We sometimes receive enquiries from couples wanting to “elope with 60 guests”, sounds funny doesn’t it?
While it’s possible to pull the strings to make such concepts happen in Japan, the approach we had for Leigh and Gary’s elopement in Tokyo was to honour tradition while bringing in the flexible elements of a modern day elopement, intimate wedding, destination wedding or whatever we can call it.
Our Tokyo-based planner Aiko arranged for a bus to pick everyone up from Tokyo Station, taking us to Kamakura, away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete jungle that is central Tokyo.
The venue arranged for the couple is an Edo-period Samurai Estate.
The rain on the day presented an opportunity for us to bring the ceremony indoors, in the traditional tatami rooms.
When our time was up at the venue, we headed out to the famous beachside in Kamakura for more photos.
The rain felt colder than the snow in Hokkaido, but when you’re so happy to be married to the love of your life it’s all a non-issue.
Leigh and Gary are one of the smiliest couple we’ve ever met!
